What insurance is there for sports?

The time is right to return to sport! But, are you properly protected? Whatever sport you’re into, whether football, handball or weights, we will assess your insurance needs.

If you have caused damage to someone else's property: Civil liability insurance

Damages caused to another person are covered by civil liability insurance (RC).If you are a member of a club, the sport licence generally covers civil liability (make sure to check as insurance arrangements differ from one club to another).

In case of doubt, you are also protected once you have taken out “personal liability insurance” within the framework of your home insurance policy. This civil liability insurance covers the entire family living in your household.

If you have been injured during training or a match

The National Health Fund (CNS) of Luxembourg covers the health costs incurred following an injury.

Bear in mind that any licensed sportsman is also automatically insured with the Sports Mutual Assistance Funds (CSMS ).The accident must have been declared within 60 days. The CSMS can then take over the costs that would not be taken into account by the CNS. Over 40 associations, representing the most practiced sports, are members.

David Zenner is AXA Luxembourg's insurance agent in Bascharage and he is very involved in the Luxembourg sports scene. He recommends a comprehensive coverage with a supplementary health insurance to meet certain expenses which are not reimbursed in full by the CNS.This is the case of medical acts, which are covered from 80% up to 100% of the agreement rate.

Consequently, the insured party bears some of the costs in respect of its personal participation. The same applies in the case of hospitalisation. A contribution to the accommodation costs is requested, whether this concerns a public or private establishment. This Daily Hospital Fee is fully reimbursed with your AXA Optisoins Health Insurance, whatever the chosen package.

A few weeks following his rugby injury, François received the medical verdict. His cruciate ligaments needed be repaired.“I was worried about the operation. But, I knew that 100% of my hospitalisation costs would be covered by my Supplementary Health Insurance. I chose the single room supplement and I took advantage of it to watch the Tour de France from my hospital bed“ he recalls.

After 6 months of rehabilitation, François returned to his sports activities and visited an osteopath twice a year, to ease tensions and prevent the onset of chronic pain. These two osteopath sessions are, themselves, reimbursed by its supplementary health insurance (AXA Active and Privilège packages).

You wish to protect your equipment

If you are a fan of cycling or golf, protecting your equipment against theft and breakage at home or on holiday can offer you even greater peace of mind.

At AXA Luxembourg, with the Confort option of the OptiHome home insurance, your sports equipment is insured against accidental breakage and theft throughout the world.

You’re a victim of a disability

To protect your family in the event of a serious accident, in particular when there is no liable third party, it is recommended that you take out personal “accident” insurance. This type of contract provides compensation in the event of death or disability following an accident according to the conditions chosen at the time of subscription.

We wish you a pleasant return to your sports activities and a lot of pleasure on the field!
