AXA Luxembourg - Carambolage : les premiers gestes

Pile-up: what do I do if I'm involved?

A multitude of vehicles are involved. Nevertheless, it is important not to rely solely on others and to know how to react. What are the first things to do? Who do I need to contact? Am I properly insured? So many questions to ask straight after the accident.

The first things to do after a major accident

  • Notify the emergency services if nobody else has already done so. It is best to use an emergency call box as your GPS location will be automatically sent to the authorities.
  • Stay on the spot while waiting for help; do not try to move your vehicle.
  • If you spot an injured person or a person trapped in a car, find out if any of the people present are a doctor or a person trained in first aid. It is inadvisable to attempt to handle a wounded person without training.
  • Remember to fill in a report (with or without the authorities present) with each driver who hit or was hit by your vehicle.

People to contact

  • Emergency services via an emergency call box.
  • Your insurer :

- First of all, contact AXA Assistance (+352 45 30 55) if you need a breakdown truck;

- To make your claim, you can contact your agent or send a motor claim to claims@axa.lu.

Find out if you are properly insured

The feature of a pileup is that it is an accident involving multiple people. It is very difficult to determine the degree of responsibility of each person in such a situation.

If you are an AXA client, you must have OptiDrive Privilege Formula (full-CASCO equivalent) to be sure that all damage to the vehicle and passengers in your vehicle will be covered by the insurer.

Security or Driver Protection Cover allows your medical expenses to be taken charge of if you are injured as a driver of the vehicle.

Refer to your policy or contact your advisor for more details.
