| Don’t forget | Photos and a detailed list of the damage, before touching or restoring anything |
| How to make a claim | Contact your agent or send your claim to claims@axa.lu |
| Who else do I need to contact? | Who else do I need to contact? Your local council, to find out what measures are being put in place for those affected |
Step 1: Assess the situation once the fire has been put out
1. If you smell gas, do not use your phone (landline or mobile) in the area; doing so may cause an explosion.
2. Check the situation and whether any instructions are in place: your local council or the State may have imposed measures that must be observed.
3. Do not return to your property until you have received the all clear from the authorities. An unstable structure, for example, makes buildings dangerous as they are not secure.
4. Before touching anything, take as many photos as you can and draw up a list of the damage suffered.
5. Protect yourself during cleaning by wearing strong rubber boots, goggles, a helmet and gloves – the building may present unusual risks (weakened furniture and walls, broken or sharp objects on the ground).
6. If a smell of smoke persists, certain objects may well need to be cleaned several times.
7. Get rid of any food or drink that may have been exposed to heat, smoke or soot.
• Get in touch with your insurer to make your claim: contact your agent or send your claim to claims@axa.lu.
• Contact your local council to find out what measures have been put in place for those affected.
Step 3: Am I properly insured against fire?
If you are an AXA customer, please refer to your policy or contact your advisor to check the extent of your cover against fire.
You are automatically covered in the event of a fire with OptiHome home insurance. If your home is no longer habitable, AXA will bear the costs for alternative accommodation.
If you have OptiDrive car insurance on an Active + Mini Casco or Privilège plan, you’re covered and AXA will lend you a replacement vehicle for the duration of the repairs.
